Storm Center Update-Monday AM

November 19, 2012, 7:03 AM by Brian Karstens

SIOUX FALLS, SD -

It’s a mild morning in much of KELOLAND as a cold front pushes through the region.  The air isn’t much cooler behind the front and most areas will be in the 50s for highs with northwest winds at 5-15mph.

Winds will be turning to the south starting in western SD later today and that trend will be spreading east during day tomorrow.  As a result, more sunshine is in the forecast and warmer temperatures will be ahead as well.  Highs could reach 70 tomorrow in Winner, with 50s and 60s very widespread.  If that’s not warm enough, Wednesday will be even warmer with highs in the 60s and 70s in most areas.  70s are most likely in southern KELOLAND, mainly along and south of I-90.

The weather will start changing on Thanksgiving as a cold front arrives from the north.  Winds will be picking up across the west during the day and will impact Sioux Falls late in the day.  Winds could easily gust over 40mph and the wind may linger into Friday.  Otherwise, it still looks dry heading into the weekend with no significant storms in the 7-day forecast.

Now, next week could be a different story.  There are signs of some very cold air building to our north at the end of November.  Will this head south?  Could there be a real signal toward winter weather?  It’s worth watching and I’ll have more tomorrow on what is happening to the pattern beyond Thanksgiving.
