WBK: Krauth Signs Six For Class Of 2013

Head women’s basketball coach Dave Krauth announced Wednesday the signing of six high school seniors that are set to join the basketball team next fall.  Logan and Presley O’Farrell of Summit, S.D., Hayley McCarron of Sioux Falls, Allie Koehn of Brandon, S.D., Allie Sievert of Estherville, Iowa, and Naomi Rust from Bismarck, N.D. all signed with the Vikings in the early signing period and will join the squad next fall. 

Logan and Presley O’Farrell are 5-foot-11 guards with a pair of state championships at Summit High School to their names and will add size at the guard position for the Vikings.  Logan was an all-state performer her junior season after averaging 15.9 points, eight rebound s, 4.4 assists, and 5.2 steals per game.  Presley was a second team All-State selection by putting up 13.9 points, seven rebounds, 4.4 assists, and four steals per game her junior season.  Both O’Farrell sisters were named to the All-Tournament team this past spring as they led Summit High School to their second consecutive state title.

McCarron is a 5-foot-11 guard/forward from Sioux Falls Christian High School who brings athleticism at multiple positions to the Vikings.  McCarron, a four-year starter has been named to the All-City team every year and all-conference her junior and senior seasons.  As a junior, McCarron averaged 18 points, eight rebounds, and two assists per game while leading her team to a 15-8 record.  McCarron is also an accomplished volleyball player and earned All-State accolades while her team won back-to-back state championships.

Koehn is a 5-foot-10 class of 2013 forward who brings winning experience to Augustana women’s basketball.  Koehn has been named to the All-Tournament team her sophomore and junior seasons and took home the state title in 2011.  In her junior season, Koehn dropped 14 points per game while grabbing six rebounds per contest.  Koehn is also an accomplished volleyball and track athlete.

Sievert, a 6-foot forward/center from Lincoln Central High School in Iowa, adds size to the roster for the 2013-14 season.  A third-team All-State selection in her junior campaign, Sievert put up 13.6 points per game while ripping down 8.1 rebounds each contest.  Sievert has also been named All-Conference twice while excelling at track and volleyball as well.

Rust is a 5-foot-11 forward/center hailing from Bismarck High School whose rebounding and scoring will be valuable for the Vikings in the future. Rust was selected to the All-State second team her junior season after averaging 15 points and 10 rebounds per game.  Rust earned All-Tournament team honors her junior campaign and is a volleyball and track standout as well.

“We are very excited to announce our six signees in this class of 2013,” Krauth said. “This is one of our larger recruiting classes, and they are a talented and versatile group on the basketball court. They are also very accomplished academically and will become great ambassadors for Augustana College in the years to come.”

The Vikings take on Dakota Wesleyan Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. before heading to Honolulu, Hawaii for the Oahu Classic on Nov. 22 and 23.
