Head volleyball coach Ashley Buckley announced Wednesday that the Augustana volleyball program will be welcoming three new athletes next school year. Brittany Cech of Omaha, Neb., Bailey Koch of Litchfield, Minn., and Ashley Wilson of Sioux Falls, S.D. will all graduate high school in the spring of 2013 and join the Vikings next fall.
Cech, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter/defensive specialist, is a three-year letterwinner who started her junior and senior seasons at Elkhorn South High School. Cech led her team to a fourth place finish her junior season and has advanced to the state tournament her senior season with a 25-7 record. Cech has hit 357 kills her senior season while swinging at a .304 clip. The outside hitter has racked up 593 kills in her junior and senior seasons to go along with 652 digs. Cech was named honorable mention All-State as a junior, to go along with her first-team All-Conference honors. Cech hoped to enter into the medical profession after graduation at Augsutana and will be studying pre-med.
Koch, a 6-foot outside hitter/middle blocker who will graduate from Litchfield High School, was a three-year starter and four-year letterwinner. Koch captained her team this fall on the way to their best finish in program history. Koch amassed 478 kills her senior season and 836 kills, 480 digs, and 128 digs in the final two seasons of her prep career. Under head coach Darin Swenson, Koch was named an All-State performer her senior year and earned All-Wright County Conference and All-Section honors her junior and senior seasons. A planned political science major at Augustana, Koch aspires to be a lawyer after time with the Vikings.
Wilson, a 6-foot-1 middle blocker, was a two-year starter and letterwinner at Roosevelt High School and was named team captain her senior season. After hitting 1.4 kills per set at a .294 clip her junior season, Wilson was named to the All-Conference team as an honorable mention. Wilson led her team to a 17-7 record and a runner-up at the state tournament in 2011. Paced by Wilson’s 154 kills, 66 blocks, and 173 digs, Roosevelt has qualified for the state tournament in her senior season. Wilson has honored with Academic All-Conference accolades as a senior and plans to study athletic training at Augustana with a minor in Spanish.
“The Augustana Volleyball program is excited to welcome Ashley, Bailey, and Brittany to our program next fall,” Buckley said. “This class is comprised of conscientious students and we expect for them to transition quickly to the college game based on their versatility and athleticism. We look forward to working with these players and seeing them develop over the course of their careers.”
Augustana travels to St. Paul, Minn. for the NSIC tournament beginning with a match against No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul on Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday is the first day of the early signing period for NCAA volleyball programs.
