Parker Powers Towards Title

November 12, 2012, 10:35 PM by Jim Madalinsky

Parker Powers Towards Title
PARKER, SD -

This week's Class B State Volleyball Tournament will be nothing new for the seniors on this Parker Pheasants squad.

For the 4th straight year the Pheasants advanced to the state tournament and they've noticed a bit of a trend.

They've went from 5th, to 4th, to 3rd the last three years so they are hoping to skip second and go to first, but they know it's going to take a lot of work," Parker Head Coach Jill Christensen said.

That past experience has created a quiet confidence for the Pheasants, but it also has brought a sense of urgency.

"There's three of us that have gone four years and it helps us because now we know this is our last year to do it. We've had those 3 years and this is our only year to get it done," Parker Senior Amber Dysthe said.

At 32 and 0 the undefeated Pheasants are the number one seed in this weeks Class B Tournament.
The squad has dropped just 5 total sets all season, and they know all eyes will be on them starting Thursday.

"It gives us confidence but it also puts a target on our back. It puts pressure, but it gives you the pressure to work harder knowing you have that target on your back," Parker Senior Tessa Weeldreyer said.

It's been 22 years since the Parker Pheasants last won a state volleyball title.
And as their coach Jill Christensen celebrates her 30th year on the sidelines, the six seniors would like nothing more then to end this milestone season in style.

"We feel like she deserves it more than we do because she has tried so hard and made us who we are today," Dysthe said.

"It's been a long time since we've had a state championship and this group is hungry for that again," Christensen said.
