CFB: Endres Named GPAC POTW

CFB: Endres Named GPAC POTW
MITCHELL, SD -

Josh Endres wrapped up his four-year career with the Dakota Wesleyan University football team with a bang Saturday afternoon at Joe Quintal Field.

Endres, who already owned the school’s single-game rushing record, became the school’s all-time leading rusher and set the single-season rushing mark in his final game with the Tigers. He surpassed the previous single-season rushing mark on a 70-yard touchdown run in the final minute of the game that put that Tigers ahead for good in a 21-14 win against Midland University.

For his game-winning performance and record-setting day, Endres has been named the Great Plains Athletic Conference Offensive Player-of-the-Week one last time, it was announced Monday afternoon by the league.

Endres entered Saturday’s game in need of four yards to become the all-time leading rusher in DWU history and 175 to surpass the school’s single-season rushing mark. He set the career rushing record on his first carry of the game – a five-yard run – but didn’t set the single-season mark until the final carry of his career.

The Midland offense had held DWU’s running game – and Endres – fairly well to start the game, and held Endres to just 75 rushing yards at halftime. On Dakota Wesleyan’s final drive of the game, the Ethan, S.D., native broke free for a 70-yard run with 44 seconds left to play. That run pushed him to 181 yards for the game, set the single-season rushing mark and put DWU ahead for good. The Tigers led 21-7 after Endres’ run, and were able to hold on for the win despite giving up a touchdown to the Warriors less than a minute later.

Endres finishes his career with 3,329 rushing yards, 972 receiving yards and 3,397 yards of total offense. He also has 4,301 all-purpose yards and scored 248 points in four seasons. He holds the school record for rushing yards in a career (3,329), season (1,302, 2012) and a game (316 against Hastings, 2010). Endres is a two-time All-GPAC First Team selection, and was named a preseason NAIA All-American prior to his junior season.
