Storm Center Update - Saturday AM

November 10, 2012, 7:40 AM by Ben Cathey

We’re following the intense system making its way into KELOLAND.  We have a wide range of temperatures with rain, snow and wintry mix all expected.  Cold winds will sharply drop our highs tomorrow.

Fog is a big presence across the area this morning.  We don’t expect much sunshine for today.  If the sun comes out at all near Sioux Falls, we’ll top out near 70.  Elsewhere, the cold front will quickly be felt.  Rain won’t take long to change over to snow in many spots west of the Missouri River.  Snow will be fluffier in the far west, allowing some drifting.  With strong winds, the potential for blowing snow prompted a Winter Weather Advisory.  Two snow bands should form.  One will be in the far west, at 2-5 inches.  This band will be along the front itself.  Then another band will try to form from Winner up towards Eureka.  This will be a wetter snow so accumulations will be marginally less.

Showers and stray storms will likely be on the lighter side in SE KELOLAND through this afternoon.

Tonight the rain will change to snow East River.  Sioux Falls looks to hit a drier pocket, though, so overall moisture should be less.
We will all be cold and windy tonight.  Most will fall to the teens, with some even in the single digits!  Tomorrow I expect some sunshine but hardly anyone will make it to 30 degrees. With strong winds continuing, the wind chill on Sunday will be brutal.

We do get more and warmth later in the workweek.
