RC Police Investigate Murder-Suicide

November 7, 2012, 5:51 PM by Derek Olson

RAPID CITY, SD -

Police in Rapid City are investigating an apparent murder suicide.

Tuesday night officers were tipped to a possible shooting in an apartment. The caller said a man inside the apartment had a gun.

Authorities made contact with 58-year-old Brad Swanson who told police he had killed his girlfriend 55-year-old Deb Ohlmacher.

After communications with the suspect ended, officers made their way inside the apartment and found the couple dead from gunshot wounds.

Once we made entry into the house we found the suspect, we found the victim, and both of them probably had been dead for a while,” Rapid City Police Lieutenant James Johns said.

Although it's unclear at this point if there was a history of abuse between the suspect and victim, authorities are urging people in abusive relationships to reach out for help before it's too late.
