Varilek Thanks Supporters Following Loss

Varilek Thanks Supporters Following Loss
Matt Varilek

SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Election day didn't end as Matt Varilek had hoped.

The Democrat lost in his campaign against Congresswoman Kristi Noem.  South Dakota voters re-elected Noem to a second two-year term in the U.S. House.  With 635 of 735 precincts reporting, Noem had 58 percent of the vote and Varilek had 42 percent.

Varilek says he is disappointed and it wasn't the result he wanted.  But he says he feels good about the race that he ran and the issues that were brought up during the campaign.

He says he appreciates the team that supported him throughout the campaign.  He plans to thank supporters on Wednesday.

Varilek says he did talk with Noem Tuesday night and wished her well.
