Lawsuit Over Contract With Staffing Firm Thrown Out

October 31, 2012, 3:29 PM by Angela Kennecke

A lawsuit filed by three South Dakota staffing companies over a $5 million state contract awarded to the national employee recruiting firm, Manpower has been thrown out.

Judge Mark Barnett ruled that the plaintiffs did not have enough of a case.

Careers Unlimited Staffing, Employment Edge of Sioux Falls and Reagan Enterprises of Watertown and Aberdeen objected to the multimillion dollar contract for Manpower to recruit 1,000 out-of-state workers to South Dakota.

The local firms argued that the governor's office over stepped its authority by entering into a contract that gives one company an exclusive deal or a monopoly in a private industry.

They also claimed that the state broke competitive bidding laws.

The companies can appeal to the South Dakota Supreme Court.

We have attached the court documents below.
