Rapid City-Based 129th Trains On Satellite Tech

October 27, 2012, 9:33 AM

RAPID CITY, SD -

Army National Guard soldiers trained on state-of-the-art satellite equipment in Rapid City this week ahead of their upcoming deployment to Afghanistan.

DVIDS Direct will give the 129th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment the capability of providing U.S. news media with real-time broadcast-quality video, photography and print products.

The mobile satellite will also allow the unit of journalists and broadcasters to provide media outlets with immediate interview opportunities with service members, commanders and subject matter experts.

The system was used in the spring to feed video of the president's address from Bagram Airfield.

Sgt. 1st Class Theanne Tangen says the technology allows television or radio stations the opportunity to interview soldiers from their community live on-the-air.
