Fire Destroys 120-Year-Old Ortonville Hotel

October 26, 2012, 1:03 PM

Fire Destroys 120-Year-Old Ortonville Hotel

A historic building in Ortonville, Minnesota, burned to the ground Friday morning.

The Ortonville police and Fire Departments got a call around 3 a.m. about fire coming from the basement windows of the Columbian Hotel at NW 2nd Street and Jefferson Avenue.  When they arrived they found the building engulfed in flames.

It took fire crews from four communities about three-and-a-half hours to put the fire out.  The cause is unknown.

The area will be blocked off for some time while crews clean up the scene and people are asked to stay behind the barricades.

The hotel was built in 1892, just 11 years after the city was organized as a village.
