This was the scene Thursday morning in Sioux Falls as light snow greeted many morning commuters. Some might be thinking it's a little early for snow, but history tells us that's not the case.
I checked the archives as far back as 1950. It turns out, 47 percent of the time Aberdeen has seen snow by now.
It's a little less likely in Rapid City, where it's snowed 28 times in October. Sioux Falls gets it 40 percent of the time. It's a little less likely to get snow in Pierre as it happens only 32 percent of the time.
Because it happens so infrequently, in that same time span, the average snowfall for the month of October is generally an inch or less.
While the snow may be a hassle to some, most kids love it and many will agree it's good to see the moisture.
