The Secret Service is in Sioux Falls, preparing for services to honor former Senator George McGovern.
The White House has announced Vice President Joe Biden will attend Thursday's prayer service.
Preparations are well underway at First United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls, where a public viewing is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday. McGovern's prayer service will also happen at the church Thursday evening.
In addition to the Secret Service, local law enforcement agencies are also busy working on a security plan.
Hundreds, if not thousands of people from South Dakota and around the country, are expected to pour into the central Sioux Falls church to pay their respects to the former South Dakota Senator and one-time Democratic presidential candidate.
Vice President Joe Biden is among the confirmed guests. The prayer service will also feature prominent South Dakota Democrats, global leaders connected to McGovern's charitable causes and clergy members. It's expected to last an hour and a half.
The viewing and prayer service are open to anyone who wants to attend. The McGovern family will be at First United Methodist prior to the prayer service, which is expected to fill the church sanctuary to its capacity of 600. The church has also set up an overflow room in anticipation of the expected large crowds.
Sioux Falls businesses are also anticipating throngs of people to pay their respects to McGovern. Businesses are adding staff, especially Friday afternoon following the former senator's funeral service.
