Wild West Coast Weather Moving East

October 23, 2012, 6:26 PM by Ben Cathey

Wild West Coast Weather Moving East

The same system that brought tornadoes to northern California continues to pushing through the West Coast. We're tracking the system as it moves east toward KELOLAND.  It's likely to bring our area a wintry mix of rain, snow and much colder air.

But first it's stirring up wild weather as it leaves California, Oregon and Washington in its wake.  On Monday, rare tornadoes were spotted north of California's capitol city, Sacramento.  The twister downed power lines and moved buildings. California typically has less than five tornadoes per year.

At higher elevations in the Golden State, deep snow fell along Interstate 80.  More than two feet of snow was reported and many are hoping for an early ski season.

Mt. Hood in Oregon also picked up its first major snow of the season. There is a chance for more each of the next seven days.

The same system also brought snow to parts of Washington state this past weekend.  The system will head our way overnight. You'll feel its arrival with cooler temps on Wednesday and winds Thursday will bring an arctic bite through the weekend.

We'll continue to bring you the latest as conditions develop and you can track the rains with our new StormTracker app.
