Diocese Remembers McGovern's Service

Diocese Remembers McGovern's Service
George McGovern

The Catholic Diocese of Sioux Falls and East River South Dakota is sending sympathy and prayers to the family of late Senator George McGovern.

"He served the state and nation with courage and distinction over many decades while modeling humility and civility in public life. Especially significant was his advocacy for the poor and under-nourished both here in South Dakota and around the world," Bishop Paul Swain said in a statement.

"As an educator focusing on social justice, Senator McGovern will be remembered for personally living the corporal works of mercy to feed the hungry and give drink to the thirsty. Many were given new opportunities to live healthy and productive lives because of his efforts. May he rest in peace," Swain said.
