We had thick fog this morning in Sioux Falls, let the countdown begin!
I’ve heard different sayings over the years as to when to expect snow. But the one I tend to talk about the most is “90 days after thick fog, expect snow to fly”. I’ve also heard it as 100 days, I put both theories to the test and here are the results.
In short, I checked when Sioux Falls has thick fog (visibility less than or equal to a quarter mile) during the late summer and fall from October 2004 to October 2010. During that time, it snowed in Sioux Falls 90 days after fog only eight percent of the time, fourteen percent on day 100. Rain was a little more common, 30% on day 90 and 27% on day 100.
90 days from today is January 18, 100 days from now is January 28. We’ll see if we get precip on any of these days.
