Medicare Scam Targets Seniors

Medicare Scam Targets Seniors

South Dakota seniors are being targeted in a Medicare scam.

Callers claim to be a telemarketing company hired by Medicare. The caller goes on to say new Medicare identification cards will soon be in the mail and need to verify account information.

The scammers are aggressive, making numerous calls and threatening that if the information is not provided, Medicare coverage will be lost.

Seniors who receive these calls should contact the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division at 1-800-300-1986 or consumerhelp@state.sd.us. Or you can contact Senior Medicare Patrol at 1-800-822-8804 East River and 1-800-695-8168 West River.
