McGovern In Stable Condition After SD Fall
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Hospital officials said former Democratic presidential candidate George McGovern remained in stable condition in a South Dakota hospital Monday after hitting his head during a fall late Friday.

Dr. Michael Elliott, chief medical officer at Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center in Sioux Falls, says McGovern is continuing his recovery and needs to rest and regain his strength.

The 89-year-old former senator was taken by helicopter late Friday to the Sioux Falls hospital after falling outside Dakota Wesleyan University's McGovern Library in Mitchell. A school official said McGovern hit his head on the pavement about two hours before he was scheduled to appear on a late C-SPAN interview at the library.

McGovern's family has asked for privacy. They say that instead of flowers, people should make donations to
www.feedingsouthdakota.org.
