One of South Dakota's oldest politicians celebrated a milestone Wednesday night.
George McGovern greeted friends and supporters at an open house celebrating the former U.S. Senator's Birthday. McGovern turned 90 last month.
McGovern was a three term U.S. Senator from the 1960s to the 1980s. He also served in the House of Representatives.
“He's packed a lot into his years and he's still pretty active,” McGovern’s daughter Ann McGovern said. “He has some of the frailties and difficulties most of us will have if we should get to be 90, but generally he's doing very well.”
Ann says the party comes at a difficult time. His son, Steven McGovern died last week after a lengthy illness.
