Grant To Assist Youth Camps At School Of Mines

October 15, 2012, 5:18 AM

RAPID CITY, SD -

The South Dakota Community Foundation has awarded a $5,000 grant to the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology to help offset camp fees for its summer programs.

Hundreds of elementary, middle and high school age students attend a variety of camps hosted on the School of Mines campus each summer.

Camps traditionally have focused on exposing children to science and engineering or immersing high school age students in focused experiences in areas such as mining, forensics, chemical engineering and explosives.

For next summer, the youth program will shift its focus toward more in-depth camps for high school students.

The camps will emphasize personalized learning and exploration of career possibilities in science, technology, engineering and math disciplines.
