Service Honoring Fallen Firefighters In Pierre

October 14, 2012, 10:34 AM

PIERRE, SD -

An annual service for fallen firefighters is being held in Pierre.

The Fallen Firefighters Memorial along Capitol Lake will have seven new names for the Sunday service.

South Dakota Firefighters Association President Denny Gorton says three firefighters who died last year and four who perished in the crash of an Air Force tanker plane in the Black Hills will be honored.

Trampus Haskvitz died fighting a Black Hills forest fire in August 2011. Jacob and William Waldner died in a September 2011 explosion while fighting a coal bin fire at the Sunset Hutterite Colony.

He says seven names is a lot to add in one year.

Also being added are: Lt. Col. Paul Mikeal, Sr. Master Sgt. Robert Cannon, Maj. Joseph McCormick and Maj. Ryan Davis.
