Pierre Causeway Reopens To Traffic

October 6, 2012, 5:14 AM by Perry Groten

Pierre Causeway Reopens To Traffic
PIERRE, SD -

Pierre's LaFramboise Island Causeway opens to the public on Saturday after being closed since the spring 2011 flood.

KCCR radio reports that an 800-foot section of the causeway was washed away by the flood.   The reconstruction was done by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The city of Pierre is responsible for other amenities on the causeway such as parking and lights.

City Administrator Leon Schochenmaier says fishing piers that spent most of last summer under water are in good shape and usable by residents and visitors.

Vehicle traffic will be allowed on the causeway, and LaFramboise Island and its trails open to the public on Saturday.
