Storm Center Update-Wednesday AM

October 3, 2012, 7:30 AM by Brian Karstens

SIOUX FALLS, SD -

We have a quiet start to the morning, but big changes are on the way with the first snow of the season for parts of KELOLAND the next 24 hours.  One of the first headlines will fire weather concerns with a Red Flag Warning for much of the southeast including Sioux Falls.

Temperatures will be in the 80s this afternoon with a strong breeze from the southeast under mostly sunny skies.

VIPIR is showing snow developing across parts of Montana, a sign of some major weather changes coming our way.

Futurescan indicates light rain showers developing in northern and western SD today, with light snow showers possible in the Black Hills by later today.

The overnight trends continue to push the front to the southeast, with some scattered showers possible.  A few snowflakes will be possible across the far north as temps drop to 33 by tomorrow morning in Aberdeen.

Winds will be strong at times as these temperatures drop.  By 3pm north winds at 30-50mph are possible in Rapid City.

These winds will spread east this evening and overnight, with strong breezes through 6am in eastern KELOLAND.

This system will deliver snow to the north with winter storm watches and advisories in North Dakota.

Colder air will continue to drop south through Friday and Saturday with highs staying mainly in the 40s.
