October Outlook

While October is starting warm and dry, it won't last all month, let alone all week.

Much colder air will start pouring into the upper plains starting on Wednesday.  As the cold air takes hold, temperatures will be at least 30 degrees cooler on Thursday when compared to Tuesday.

The colder weather will also come with a chance for some snow, mainly in the Hills, but October is when many locations start to get the first flakes of the season.

While this week will end much colder than it started, warm weather should return later in the month.  While it might take some time, the second half of the month might end up warmer than the first half.

As far as precipitation, October numbers range from an inch and three quarters in western South Dakota to just over two inches in the southeast.  Snow amounts average around an inch for the month.

Many may just be happy with any kind of moisture.
