We have a dry start to the weekend with another quiet weather day ahead. Temperatures should quickly warm with the dry air in place, with temperatures by noon into the 70s and many spots close to 80 late in the day.
The lack of rain continues to be a big story. We saw a few light showers yesterday in parts of central and western SD. Mobridge reports .03” the past 24 hours.
The yearly rainfall totals are not good, and the deficits are growing. Sioux Falls is now over 7” below normal this year, with even worse conditions in south central SD. Even Aberdeen and Watertown are 3”-5” below normal.
The latest drought monitor from yesterday is even worse than last week. You can see exceptional, extreme, and severe drought covers much of KELOLAND, with worst conditions in the southeast.
The jet stream starts to change by the middle of next week, leading to some windy and cooler weather. However, no rain is in the forecast with this drop in temperature.
