Holiday Shopping Kick Starts Early

September 20, 2012, 7:17 AM by Kellee Azar

Holiday Shopping Kick Starts Early
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

As summer comes to a close, many big box stores across the country including here in KELOLAND are already preparing for the holiday shopping season. But how can local stores compete with the big business?

Toys are something kids usually have on their Christmas lists. For many, Christmas shopping in September seems a bit too early. But Nancy Savage owner of Child's Play Toys in downtown Sioux Falls says many have already jumped on board.

"We do free gift wrap and have had so many people ask for Christmas wrap already and even starting in August and especially now in September, almost everyday," store owner Nancy Savage said.

But how do small businesses such as Child's Play Toys compete against the big box stores?

"We will hold for people and try to accommodate.  Being a small business I try to do whatever I can to help the customer. And because you know with the customer whatever they need we try to do," Savage said.

For customers such as Jill Pearson, the different variety of toys is what keeps her coming back.

"I like a lot that the toys in here range from the creative toys to the play toys.  It hits a lot of different age groups and I have a lot of different ages that I have to buy for.  So I can get it all in one stop," Pearson said

And while some major chain stores have already released their top toy lists of the year, Child's Play Toys will have its own.  It's just another way they're staying competitive.

"We have a list of best toys that comes out every year that is exclusive to the neighborhood toy stores.  And we will have Neighborhood Toy Store Day coming up in November as well which is our kick-off for all of the best toys for kids," Savage said.

Child's Play Toy's are getting new toys in every day.

Savage says what sets them a part is that you can actually sit down and play with the toys at her store.
