The long-time boyfriend of Amanda Connors is speaking out for the first time about the woman he calls "perfect."
Connors was shot and killed on Tuesday in front of a Cost Cutters hair salon in Sioux Falls. The man who says he knew her best says 38-year-old Tyrone Smith took the life of the woman he planned to marry.
23-year-old Tyler Veurink was set up with Connors back in 2008 and he says they've been together ever since. He describes her as a beautiful girl who always gave people the benefit of the doubt. He says her concern for other people put her in the wrong place at the wrong time.
"She cared too much. She cared more about others than she did herself, obviously. She always wanted to make me happy," Veurink said.
Police say Connors was shot in the head after confronting Smith outside Cost Cutters where Smith's girlfriend worked.
Loved ones are holding a prayer vigil for Connors Friday at 5:30 p.m. outside the Cost Cutters on 41st Street in Sioux Falls. A prayer service will also be held at Church of the Good Shepherd in Jackson, Minnesota, from 5 to 8 p.m.
