CFB: Zenner's Stellar Start
BROOKINGS, SD -

As a redshirt freshmen last season SDSU running back Zach Zenner rushed for 470 yards in 11 games.

Through two games in his sophomore campaign, Zenner already has that number in his cross-hairs after grinding out 461 yards and averaging more than 8 yards per carry.

"I was here this summer with a bunch of guys and we were working hard, putting the time in, working on speed, quickness and strength," Sophomore Zach Zenner said.

Zenner started the year off in style with a 99-yard touchdown run as part of a 186-yard performance at Kansas, but the Eagan, Minnesota native was just getting warmed up.

Last week at Southeastern Louisiana, Zenner carried the ball 34 times grinding out 278 yards. The total was the 3rd highest in SDSU history and Zenner says he's not done yet.

"You need to expect to do well as a team in order to do well. You have to have that confidence or else its not going to happen," Zenner said.

And even with two starters down on the offensive line that confidence remains the same.

"It's a neat deal to have backups in there who have become number ones and excel the way they have so I'm proud of those guys for coming together," Stiegelmeier said.

"Even with the few injuries we've had on the offenseive line the guys that have stepped up have done a fabulous job," Zenner said.

Now with the conference schedule just two weeks away, Stiegelmeier and the rest of the Jacks hope their new weapon is just starting to find his stride.

"You have to raise the bar every play, every day, every week so he needs to work and get better. That's the tough part when you've excelled like he has to come in and get better each week," Stiegelmeier said.
