SF Fire Rescue Celebrates Century Old Building

SF Fire Rescue Celebrates Century Old Building
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

A century-old landmark in downtown Sioux Falls will remain a vital first-responder well into the 21st century.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue held a dedication for the Central Fire Station, built way back in 1912.

It once housed horse-drawn fire engines. But now, workers have installed a new floor to support the much heavier fire trucks of today.

The building is one of the oldest active fire stations in the country.

“This is where my career was and this is where my friendships with the firefighters began.  And it makes no difference if you're a chief officer or a firefighter or a driver. We're all brothers,’ former Sioux Falls Fire Chief Kirk Anderson said.

Visitors can try their hand at firing a water hose Saturday as part of 100th anniversary events taking place through next week.
