Drivers Urged To Avoid North Cliff Avenue

Drivers Urged To Avoid North Cliff Avenue

Drivers who use North Cliff Avenue should expect long lines and delays during their morning commute.  Public Works officials expect traffic to back up on North Cliff past Interstate 90 by about a quarter mile as crews widen the intersection at 60th Street North.

Traffic will be restricted to single lanes in each direction until early November and no left turns will be allowed at the intersection.

Instead, the city is urging drivers to avoid Cliff Avenue.  Instead they should use Interstate 229 to access 60th Street North on the east side of Cliff Avenue and use Interstate 29 to access it on the west side of Cliff Avenue.

The project is part of a $10.7 million reconstruction of North Cliff Avenue that started in May; the overall project is running on-schedule, thanks to the dry summer.

The project is scheduled to be finished during the first week of November; the company, TNR Contractors, will be fined $2-thousand a day for every day they miss the deadline.
