US Attorneys To Meet With Tribal Officials

September 6, 2012, 5:26 AM

BISMARCK, ND -

Fifteen U.S. attorneys who make up the Department of Justice's Native American Issues Subcommittee are slated to meet in Bismarck on Thursday to discuss public safety issues in Indian Country.

North Dakota U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon says the attorneys general will meet with tribal officials to work on improving public safety in tribal communities. Purdon is vice-chair of the committee.

The group met last year on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota to hear from tribal leaders, law enforcement officials and community members about public safety issues in Indian Country, including violence against Native American women.

This article has been revised to reflect the following correction:
The Associated Press corrected its story to reflect that a group of US attorneys is meeting not attorneys general.
