Colton Toddler Found

Colton Toddler Found
Malcolm Pulscher

NEAR COLTON, SD -

It’s a happy ending for a rural Colton family after a one-and-a-half-year-old toddler wandered away from home.

Malcolm Pulscher went into the woods near his home around 11 a.m. Wednesday and when he didn't come out, the search began.

More than 40 law enforcement officers, men on horseback and friends and family searched the heavily covered grounds.

“This one-and-a-half-year-old, according to his parents, he gets along really good so he can move pretty good but he's still one-and-a-half years old,” Minnehaha County Sheriff Mike Milstead said.

After multiple searches of the house and buildings on the property, rescue teams headed into the woods, sloughs and miles of cornfields surrounding the farm. It was an intense search, using all of the people, planes and four-wheelers on hand.

And all of the searching paid off. Malcolm was found around 3 p.m. Wednesday. Law enforcement and search teams lined up waiting to see the little boy be reunited with his parents.

"[I] just held him, was happy to have him back, happy to have him back,” Malcolm’s mother Laura Jean Pulscher said.

Brian Kegley is the one who found Malcolm nearly a quarter of a mile into the field.

"[It was] great to find him, huge relief thanks to God because he's the one who could help us find him," Kegley said. "What was his reaction? He was crying at first, but then he kept pointing at the airplane that was looking for him.”

Laura Jean Pulscher says other than a little dehydration, muddy feet and hands, her son is doing great. She planned to give him a bath and hold him close for the rest of day.
