Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman says some cooler weather has helped firefighters make good progress overnight in their battle to contain several wildfires in the northwest corner of the state.
But Heineman says it will likely take two or three more days to fully contain the fires near Chadron that have also crossed into South Dakota. Heineman was touring the fire damage on Sunday and meeting with local officials.
Heineman says firefighters are concerned about the forecast for winds in the area on Sunday that could spread the fires that have already burned more than 93 square miles.
Heineman says Nebraska has had a rough summer of wildfires, but the fire season will probably remain a threat for at least four to six weeks more because of the dry conditions.
