Thousands Camp For LifeLight

August 31, 2012, 5:52 PM by Shawn Neisteadt

Thousands Camp For LifeLight
WORTHING, SD -

The LifeLight Festival is now underway south of Sioux Falls near the small town of Worthing.  Tens of thousands of people will attend the nation's largest free Christian music event.  Many of them won't leave the festival grounds for several days.

This isn't the first visit to the LifeLight festival for Brent Moore and his family.  But this year they've decided to enjoy the full experience.

"This is our first time to tent it, so we're going to see what it's all about," Moore said.

The family of five made the seven-hour trip from Columbia, Missouri, to spend four nights in a tent on the festival grounds near Worthing.  The Moores quickly learned LifeLight camping comes with a list of challenges.

"The biggest thing we're going to hope for is the tent not to blow down and we still have a tent after this little bit of wind," Moore said.

A few rows away, the Daly family knows all about living in a tent at LifeLight.  But this year the Groton, South Dakota, clan has upgraded to a camper.

"We like to come and camp and kind of lose ourselves in the Lord here.  That's what it's all about. It's awesome." Darlene Daly said.

And whether it is someone's first-time camping at the festival or a return trip experience, those attending LifeLight say what's on stage isn't the only attraction.

"I don't know names, I don't go by who they are singing, I just go by the songs," Daly said.

"Being around fellow Christians, being around neighbors like this, and just sharing stories and visiting, that's what makes it a special trip for us," Moore said.

And that's what makes this weekend of roughing it well worth it for thousands of festival goers.

You can find more information on the schedule of events for the weekend on the LifeLight website.
