Sore Throat, Cough Symptoms Of Virus Going Around

Sore Throat, Cough Symptoms Of Virus Going Around
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

The waiting rooms at area acute care clinics are filled with people complaining of not feeling well.

The bug making most people sick lately is an upper respiratory virus. And if you've heard a co-worker, a kid or even someone standing a little too close to you in line at the grocery store coughing or sniffling, chances are they've got it and you're at risk of catching it.

The good news is the cause is most likely a virus, which means it should run its course on its own in week to 10 days. The bad news is you shouldn't be looking to your doctor for an antibiotic because there's no magic pill for this illness.

So what symptoms should you be looking for? Doctors say it starts with a sore throat and cough and makes you feel like you've got a mild case of the flu.

Factor in a low grade fever, a stuffy or runny nose, muscle aches and fatigue and it's no wonder you feel lousy.

So what are doctor's orders if you find yourself battling this bug? An over-the-counter pain reliever, plenty of water and rest, and an over-the-counter cough medicine, if necessary.

If you have a fever that last for more than three days or are having shortness of breath or chest pains, you should see your doctor.
