Wife Of Mankato Coach Calls Charges 'Baseless'

August 27, 2012, 5:57 PM by Ben Dunsmoor

Wife Of Mankato Coach Calls Charges 'Baseless'
Melodee Hoffner

The wife of the Minnesota State University-Mankato football coach says the child pornography charges against her husband are 'ridiculous and baseless.'

Todd Hoffner, 46, was arrested last week on two counts of child pornography and is currently on administrative leave.

Videos of Hoffner's children dancing naked were discovered on his university-issued cell phone earlier this month. This is Hoffner's fifth year as the head coach of the MSU-Mankato football team; before that he was an assistant coach at the University of South Dakota. Hoffner's wife said Monday that the videos are not child pornography.

Melodee Hoffner went in front of the media to say that the child pornography charges are as much of a shock to them as they were to everyone else, and she questioned the accusations that have currently sidelined her husband.

Court documents say three different videos were found on Hoffner's cell phone when he brought it in to get fixed by the university IT department earlier this month.

Documents say the Hoffner's eight-year-old son along with their five and nine-year-old daughters can be seen in one video dancing naked and bending over to expose themselves.

Another ten second video shows the Hoffner's two girls dancing naked and the boy entering the screen wearing nothing but a football helmet.

"My family does what every family does; we take videos and pictures of our kids in all their craziness," Melodee Hoffner said.

During Monday's news conference Hoffner's wife noted that she is a school counselor and said her children are have not been abused.

"I assure you our children have not been exploited or abused; they are healthy physically, mentally, emotionally and have normal relationships with friends, family, and teachers," Melodee Hoffner said.

Court documents say the third video shows one of the Hoffner's children being woken up and going to the bathroom. The child does have on underwear. Melodee Hoffner said that they took that video because her daughter was having difficulty getting up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, and when she would she would bump into walls when she was half asleep. The Hoffner's wanted to take that video to show her what she was doing in the middle of the night.
