Gov. Dennis Daugaard has made two new appointments to the South Dakota Board of Minerals and Environment.
Rex Hagg of Rapid City and Doyle Karpen of Jefferson will serve four-year terms on the nine-member board. The panel deals with issues involving solid waste, hazardous waste, mining, air quality and oil and gas exploration
Hagg is a lawyer and former state legislator who served for 10 years in the South Dakota House of Representatives, including two years as speaker. He succeeds Bob Duxbury of Wessington, who had served on the board since 2005.
Karpen is a Union County Commissioner succeeding Charles Monson of Milbank, a board member since 1997.
Daugaard says Hagg and Karpen have solid experience that'll prove invaluable in their new roles.
