A memorial honoring the victim of a deadly jeep-motorcycle accident at a Sioux Falls intersection caught fire over the weekend.
Fire crews responded to 26th Street and Grange Avenue early Saturday morning.
Investigators believe the fire was an accident caused by a candle at the memorial.
On Saturday night, friends of the crash victim, Tracy Handel, rebuilt the memorial. They salvaged what they could from the fire and brought new candles and mementos.
“We come here to remember Tracy and seeing that this [Saturday] morning was really hard, and we want to resurrect what we had and I think we did a good job.” friend Alison Watson said.
Neighbors and those who visited the memorial, dispute the official cause, saying there were no candles lit at the time of the fire.
A police officer came to the site Saturday night to investigate.
