Low cost air carriers like Allegiant Air have saved a lot of you hundreds perhaps thousands of dollars ever since it started flying out of Sioux Falls.
Now, Allegiant is going to stop flying to LA at the end of the month.
Mary Philippe is a supervisor of a foreign exchange program. Over the years she has used Allegiant Air to fly to LA, but soon she won't have that option anymore.
"It's really a shame we're not going to have that direct flight for LA," Philippe said.
Philippe also likes to fly Allegiant to other places with the foreign exchange students.
"I take them to Orlando, so that's real nice way rather than travel with 30 kids and having to stop off, so I hope we never lose that or Las Vegas," Philippe said.
She's not alone, several other air travelers we talked with have some of the same concerns that low cost carriers like Allegiant Air will be ending even more flights.
"Unfortunately it takes away one of our options that we had for flights to the west coast," AAA Travel agent Kay Parrott said.
Parrott says people like flying Allegiant because they can save both money and time with a direct flight. And even though Allegiant is ending its flights from Sioux Falls to LA to free up space at LAX, she's doesn't foresee any other flights ending.
"I don't think the low cost carriers are going to go away by any stretch of the imagination, I think they are here to stay," Parrot said.
She just hopes Allegiant will reconsider.
"My thought is hopefully Allegiant will maybe look into an alternate airport out there at locations like Orange County or Onterio, something like that that's not a huge busy airport that they might have a little better availability for flight slots," Parrott said.
Parrott says people can still find pretty good deals to Los Angeles that are comparable to Allegiant's costs after you figure in some of the fees Allegiant has tacked on recently. But they won't be direct flights.
