Franken Works On Lewis & Clark Water Project

As the drought continues to get worse, Minnesota Senator Al Franken is working to complete the Lewis and Clark water project.

This week the regional water system started delivering water to eleven communities in South Dakota and Iowa for the first time, but because of the lack of federal funding several Minnesota communities are still waiting for the water.

Franken has introduced a bill that would set aside $80 million in federal funds every year to complete several water projects including Lewis and Clark.

"This is exactly the kind of infrastructure project that will create jobs in the building of it. But it will also create economic development,” Franken said. “There's an estimated over $400 million in economic development that will come out of this. This is penny-wise and pound foolish if we don't finish this thing."

The executive director of Lewis and Clark was in Washington D.C. this week to testify about the bill.
