Airshow Visitors Urged To Prepare For Heat

Airshow Visitors Urged To Prepare For Heat
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Planes have been flying in from all over the country to prepare for this weekend's Sioux Falls Airshow.  And while there will be a lot to see, people should also be prepared for the heat.

Lt. Col. Reid Christopherson with the South Dakota Air National Guard says safety is the number one priority at the event and he wants people to make sure they can handle the heat.

“If you wouldn’t go out and take a long walk in this weather, a three-year-old in a stroller, maybe someone with physical limitations, it may not be the right place,” Christopherson said.

Staying hydrated is key to beating the heat at events like the airshow, where they are used to these hot temperatures. But if a thunderstorm did hit, the airshow would know how to handle it.

“We do a broadcast in so many miles, clear the air field… encouraging folks to move back to a place of safety,” said Christopherson said.

The airshow takes place Saturday and Sunday at Joe Foss Field with an entrance at the South Dakota Air National Guard Base.  Visit our story Be Prepared For The Sioux Falls Airshow to find out more on what you can and cannot bring, public parking lots with shuttles and a schedule of events.
