SD Democratic House Candidate Slams Incumbent

SD Democratic House Candidate Slams Incumbent
Matt Varilek

ABERDEEN, SD -

Democratic congressional candidate Matt Varilek says he can defeat incumbent Republican Rep. Kristi Noem for South Dakota's lone seat in the U.S. House because Noem has sided with millionaires and big corporations during her two years in Congress.

Varilek spoke to a crowd of about 150 people Friday night at the South Dakota Democratic Party's state convention in Aberdeen.

Varilek criticized Noem for voting to extend tax cuts for wealthy people and oil companies and for seeking to cut financial aid to college students.

The 37-year-old Varilek says he would work for middle-class people if elected.

Noem's campaign manager, Tom Erickson, says Varilek spends all his time criticizing Noem because he doesn't want to discuss his own stands on raising taxes and supporting President Obama's health care overhaul.
