Rep. Perry Asking For Recount Of Senate Primary

June 12, 2012, 4:47 PM

Rep. Tad Perry has asked for a recount after his 36-vote loss to Jeff Monroe in last Tuesday's Republican District 24 state Senate primary.

The recount is set for the morning of Monday, June 25.

The Fort Pierre lawmaker says he does not expect the results to change, but he wants to make sure they are what they appear to be.

Perry, the former head of South Dakota's university system, is finishing his first two-year term in the House. He made the request after the state canvass of the June 5 primary results was held Tuesday morning.

The official outcome fell within the two-percent margin needed to qualify for a recount.
