Varilek Takes All But One SD County

June 6, 2012, 7:46 AM by Austin Hoffman

Varilek Takes All But One SD County

Democratic US House candidate Matt Varilek won every South Dakota county but one.

As of Tuesday night, Pennington, Shannon, Harding, and Minnehaha counties had not yet finishing counting the ballots for this race. When the results came in, all four counties did go to Varilek.

Candidate Jeff Barth was the favorite in Dewey County, which is highlighted in yellow in the map.  He received 54 percent of the vote there.

Overall, Varilek received 21,655 votes or 72 percent of the vote in South Dakota compared to Barth's 8,450 votes or 28 percent.

Varilek will now face incumbent Kristi Noem in November for the lone seat.
