SD Rep. Abdallah Loses Bid For State Senate Seat

June 5, 2012, 9:40 PM

SIOUX FALLS, SD -

South Dakota House member Gene Abdallah has lost his bid for a Republican state Senate seat nomination.

Ernie Otten Jr. topped Abdallah in Tuesday's primary for the District 6 seat by a 58.9 percent to 41.1 percent margin. That's a difference of 234 votes.

Abdallah, a retired law officer, served in the South Dakota House for two years beginning in 2000 and then served eight years in the state Senate.

He had returned to the House in 2010 because he was term limited in the state Senate, but was vying to return to the Senate.
