Noem Fires Back On Attack Ad

May 24, 2012, 10:09 PM by Don Jorgensen

Noem Fires Back On Attack Ad
Rep. Kristi Noem

SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Republican U.S. Representative Kristi Noem is answering questions about the latest attack advertisement by South Dakota Democrats.

It's a radio ad and in it, they accuse Noem of missing important meetings and votes in Congress.

We caught up with Noem today and she wants to set the record straight.

"I think you're referring to the recent articles about me not attending committees," Noem said.

Noem addressed her attendance in Congress during a Farm Bill listening session she hosted in Sioux Falls on Thursday.

"I've just been real factual with everybody, telling them it's just a bunch of hogwash, I mean it's craziness," Noem said.

On June 23, 2011, Oklahoma congressman Frank Lucas, the chair of the House Agriculture Committee, attempted to introduce Noem at her very first meeting. He soon realized she wasn't there and the committee responded in laughter.

"I think the clip you saw on TV that ag hearing that showed um I was in another committee hearing introducing a bill on wind energy that was very important to South Dakota," Noem said.

Noem serves on three committees and nine sub-committees.

"I have two or three committee hearings at the exact same time. I can't possibly get to them all, but I get to the ones that are critical to South Dakota and I think my voting record, in committee and on the floor says that," Noem said.

Noem's office says she has a 99 percent voting record in committee and nearly 98 percent voting record on the House Floor and for Democrats to suggest she's a no show in Washington is wrong.

"I'm a mom and a South Dakotan, but I still haven't mastered the art of being in two or three places at one time," Noem said.

Any other committee meetings Noem missed, she says she was meeting with South Dakotans.
