This year, for the very first time, KELOLAND-TV will be awarding the champions and championships of South Dakota high schools.
With eight state titles left to be given away, the chase is on to land one of the first ever KELO Cups.
Each school year, KELOLAND Sports will award the KELO Cup to three South Dakota high schools, one in each class AA, A and B.
Since not all sports have three classes, schools will compete in the class in which they play basketball.
So how does it work?
Well, a school can pick up points for each top three finish, five points for first, two points for second and one point for third.
If there is no third place finisher as in football, no points will be awarded.
The school with the most total points in its class wins.
Who wouldn't want extra hardware for their trophy case?
The three champions will be announced early next week following state track and field and baseball, but for now, here’s an updated look at where the teams sit.
In AA, O'Gorman is in the lead by three points over Washington.
In the A standings, Dell Rapids is still in the lead followed by St. Thomas More and Sioux Falls Christian.
Finally White River has taken the lead from Parker in the class B standings. The tigers are in first by four points.
