Davison County commissioners have approved a condition use permit for a swine production facility.
Four of the commissioners voted in favor of the permit while one abstained during the packed meeting Tuesday at the Davis County Courthouse. Some 5,400 sows will produce about 140,000 piglets annually at the $13 million hog operation.
The hog farm in Baker Township will be owned by Jackrabbit Family Farms, a group of investors from South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa. Pipestone Systems of Minnesota would manage the project.
Commissioner Denny Kiner said Jackrabbit Family Farms showed "due diligence" in meeting county standards.
The project has been a hot-button issue in Davison because some residents expressed concerns about potential problems from dust and odor.
