Home Construction On The Rise In RC

April 28, 2012, 6:16 PM by Derek Olson

Home Construction On The Rise In RC
RAPID CITY, SD -

The housing crisis affected buyers and builders across the country.  But residential building permit numbers show a rebound in Rapid City.

"I think our market is coming back and it's getting stronger.  The permits seem to be indicating that," Black Hills Home Builders Association President Jeff Lage said.

Residential building permits in Rapid City are up from around 150 in 2009 to around 220 in 2011.  And they're on pace to increase again this year.

"It's a good time to be a builder.  Things are coming back.  Rapid City is still pretty steady on the building and remodeling market," Lage said.

The reason for the rebound is no secret.

"The mortgage rates are fabulous.  You're probably never going to find a time to build or buy a home with the low interest rates that are happening today," Mutch Usera said.

Usera is working with Lage's company to build a home and says a good price isn't the only thing consumers should look for.

"Make sure you just have those people who meet the standards, or at least your standards when it comes to building a home," Usera said.

Finding a builder won't be difficult at this weekend's Parade Of Homes.

"They can come to these homes and the builders will be at every home.  So you can walk through the house with them and really ask the questions you want answered," Lage said.

All in the hope that more people will get one step closer to their dream home.

"Come on out.  There's so many neat things in every house no matter what price range it is," Lage said.

This weekend's Parade of Homes features 16 houses.  Tickets are $5.
