Reward Offered In Shooting Of Endangered Bird

April 23, 2012, 9:07 PM

State and federal authorities are looking for the person who killed an endangered bird near Miller, South Dakota.

Authorities say the shooter used a high-powered rifle to kill a whooping crane, which was standing in a field on 354th Avenue, about 17 miles southwest of town on Friday.  It is one of just 600 whooping cranes worldwide.

Anyone with information should call the Poacher Hotline at 1-888-OVERBAG (683-7224) or the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at 605-224-9045 to report any information which will aid officers in the apprehension of the shooter.  Callers can remain anonymous.

A reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for shooting the bird.
